چکیده

objective: torticollis is a symptom that can be related to different pathological mechanisms ranging from simple to life-threatening conditions. here we report a child with torticollis caused by a neuroenteric cyst in the upper cervical region; this is a very rare condition in childhood and  in this case, it was successfully resolved by surgery. clinical presentation: a 2.5 year old boy presented with a 2 month-history of torticollis, he had developed paraparesia 2 weeks before admission. at examination he was found to be quadriparetic. radiographic study of  the cervical spine revealed widening of the cervical canal. brain and spinal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a hypointense lesion on the t1 at the craniovertebral junction having a  compressive effect on the anterior aspect of the brain stem and spinal cord. intervention: the patient underwent surgery. after craniotomy and opening of the dura, a cystic lesion was seen; clear fluid was aspirated and the cyst wall was removed. conclusion: considering the quadriparesis and torticollis, the patient improved significantly within the first few days after surgery. no relapse of symptoms occurred during the follow up period. this is the first case report of a child in whom torticollis was due to a neuroenteric cyst of the upper cervical intradural region.

Neuroenteric cyst of the cerebellum.

Intracranial neuroenteric cysts are rarely encountered and no more than 13 cases have been reported in the literature. This paper reports another case located in the cerebellum. These occur mostly in adults and there is no typical clinical presentation. The computed tomographic scan shows them as low attenuating lesions with no peripheral contrast enhancement. These cysts are believed to be dev...

extremal region detection guided by maxima of gradient magnitude

a problem of computer vision applications is to detect regions of interest under dif- ferent imaging conditions. the state-of-the-art maximally stable extremal regions (mser) detects affine covariant regions by applying all possible thresholds on the input image, and through three main steps including: 1) making a component tree of extremal regions’ evolution (enumeration), 2) obtaining region ...

Brown-Séquard Syndrome Caused by a Cervical Synovial Cyst

Synovial cysts are recognized as an uncommon cause of radicular and myelopathic symptoms. They are most frequently found in the lumbar region. The cervical spine or cervicothoracic junction is a rare location for a degenerative intraspinal synovial cyst as compared with the lumbar spine. At given cervical spinal levels, synovial cysts probably share clinical features with disc herniation and st...

Acute Myelopathy Caused by a Cervical Synovial Cyst

Synovial cysts of the cervical spine, although they occur infrequently, may cause acute radiculopathy or myelopathy. Here, we report a case of a cervical synovial cyst presenting as acute myelopathy after manual stretching. A 68-year-old man presented with gait disturbance, decreased touch senses, and increased sensitivity to pain below T12 level. These symptoms developed after manual stretchin...

Asyptomatic Fungal Cyst of Conjunctiva Caused by Bipolaris Spicifera

An asymptomatic fungal cyst of a conjunctival infection was found and removed by biopsy in a young shepherdess. It is concluded that...
